Prof. C. Subramaniam
Principal Investigator
Dr. C. Subramaniam is currently a Professor at the Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. His doctoral thesis dealt with correlating the electrical transport properties and vibrational signatures of one-dimensional materials such as carbon nanotubes. A subsequent postdoctoral stint at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science & Technology (AIST), Japan dealt with the development of functional nanocomposites for applications in semiconductor industries.
Currently, his research activities focus on application-oriented fundamental research to understand photon-phonon energy conversion pathways and thereby develop innovative materials for solar-thermal conversion, development of electrochemical energy storage systems and sensors for wearable electronics, with special emphasis on developing operando techniques for experimental understanding of heterogeneous electrified interfaces related to energy conversion, harvesting, and storage. A few selected awards and recognitions include “Young Scientist Award & Gold Medal” from the International Union of Material Research Societies (IUMRS), “Iijima Award and Medal” from the FullereneNanotubes-Graphene Research Society of Japan, “Excellence in Teaching Award” and “Impactful Research Award” by IIT Bombay, and DST-SwarnaJayanti Fellowship by the Government of India. In addition to more than 75 peer-reviewed publications in reputed journals and ten patents (Indian and International), he is also the founder of a startup focusing on coatings for solar-thermal conversion technologies. He also served as an early career board member for ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering and Associate Editor of the Bulletin of Materials Science.
