- CH 557 and CH 821: Deals with the role of Chemists and surface spectroscopic techniques such as X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy in fabrication, characterization, and understanding of surfaces and their role in semiconductor devices.
- EP 102: Deals with lasers, their science and evolution, and Raman scattering extending to surface-enhanced Raman scattering (borrows a bit of nanophotonics).
- CH 586: From sand to silicon. This elective course stretches from the origin of Chemical bond to the evolution of structure, band diagram, dispersion relations, and correlation between the atomistic structure and properties of materials such as silicon, polymers, and glass. Various chemical and physical processes to modulate the structure of these materials and the resulting changes in properties will be discussed.
- CH 403: Kinetics and thermodynamics of various processes occurring at the electrode-electrolyte interface, their governing rules, and techniques to probe such interfaces (Linear Sweep voltammetry, Tafel, Impedance spectroscopy). The focus will be to understand the fundamentals with an eye on applications oriented toward energy storage systems such as batteries and supercapacitors.
