Abstract Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have emerged as a well-suited alternative for Li-ion batteries (LIBs) in certain applications.[1] SIBs possess the crucial benefits of greater crustal abundance of sodium and its widespread global distribution. In this context, organic molecules complement the sustainability ethos as they are composed of naturally abundant elements.[2,3] Further, they are easier to functionalise and can be part of several solid-state materials, including coordination polymers (CPs) and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs).
The presentation will briefly introduce organic anode materials used in SIBs, including their mechanism, types of functional groups, synthesis methods, limitations, and benefits. Subsequently, our attempts at improving the synthesis aspects would be presented, especially in using greener and scalable techniques to prepare the active solids.[4,5] The latter part of the talk will encompass exploratory studies, with focus on the development of azo-functional MOFs as electrode materials.[6]
