Safety at Chemistry

Safety is of utmost importance at the Department of Chemistry. By adhering to safety rules, we can prevent and manage hazardous chemicals properly. A clean and organized lab promotes smooth experiments and reduces mistakes, fostering a safe learning environment for science.

Mandatory for all research personnel:

Safety training and emergency reporting is mandatory for all members of the Chemistry Department. The aim is to ensure that all personnel are aware of institute-wide requirements and departmental protocols, and to maintain a culture of safety and accountability.

Safety Training

Safety training is mandatory for all students and employees of the Department. The following five steps have to be strictly followed by all.

  1. Review the SoPs and videos below.

Note: students/staff joining in the middle of the semester have to review the presentations available here.

  5. Pass the safety exam before starting research work.
100% score mandatory for those who viewed the content online (only applicable for people who join in the middle of the semester). 80% score (minimum) for those with 100% attendance during safety sessions.

  6. Submit undertaking after completion of the four steps above, email the following undertaking to safety@chem.iitb.ac.in, with a cc to PI and choffice@chem.iitb.ac.in . Every PI to ensure that students/staff have handed over the undertaking prior to starting their research work.

Accident Reporting
