Mumbai Workshop on Quantum Chemistry (Machine learning applied to chemistry)
Mumbai workshop on quantum chemistry (MWQC) started in 2018 at IIT Bombay to connect students and postdocs with leading scientists in an informal and pedagogical setting. The workshop picks one topic and provides detailed lectures in a small classroom setting with both black-board and powerpoint talks. These are accompanied with hands-on sessions for practical applications.
This years workshop will focus on machine learning (ML) as applied to chemistry. ML has seen exponential growth in chemistry in the last few years, and the aim of this workshop is to understand the underlying theories behind different kinds of ML and its applications. The participants will learn mathematical theories and try different applications in hands-on sessions using Python based programming. We, therefore, ask our participants to be familiar with basic linear algebra, calculus and probability, and some exposure to Python programming will be useful.
As a workshop, tutorial sheets will be provided, that participants will solve in groups. The tutorial problems will cover practical and theoretical aspects. Participants will present their solutions in tutorial sessions.
The seats are limited and chosen based on the benefit that the participant will have from the workshop towards their research goals.
