Abstract Due to the restricted degree of freedom of chemical entities in confined nanospace their physical and chemical properties are expected to be different from their conventional properties in the bulk medium. Metal ligand dynamic coordination bonds have been extensively used to design discrete metallosupramolecular architectures. My lecture will focus on the design of a few water-soluble Pd(II) discrete molecular architectures that have hydrophobic confined nano-pockets. My lecture will focus on our recent observation on the role of the shape of reaction vessels on the fate of a chemical reaction (Figure 1). By changing the shape of Pd6 aqueous molecular cages the oxidation of anthrone in presence of water gave different products under the identical reaction conditions. Introduction of flexibility/functionality into the ligands to design unusual functional architectures for selective photocatalytic oxidation and separation of isomeric polyaromatic hydrocarbons by aqueous extraction will also be presented in my lecture
