We are broadly interested in studying protein structure, folding and dynamics using an interdisciplinary approach. We work at the intersection of physical chemistry and structural biology of proteins, using a combination of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy and other spectroscopic tools (Fluorescence, Circular Dichroism etc.), with the help of modern molecular biology, protein biochemistry techniques and
computational approaches.
Currently, we focus on the protein RfaH (a protein which can adopt more than one native fold) in the laboratory. We study its thermodynamic stability, conformational dynamics and kinetics (mechanism) of folding/unfolding and fold-switching using a combination of spectroscopic probes. Ultimately, we hope our experiments will shed light on the functional importance of fold-switchers in a biological context.
Motivated individuals with a background in biomolecular NMR spectroscopy and/or protein biophysics are encouraged to apply. Please contact me at ishita@chem.iitb.ac.in with a CV and a short description of your research interests.
