Talk Title : "Photocatalysis with small molecule anions and materials".
Abstract
In recent times there are many simple organic molecules emerging as highly reducing species that perform reductive cleavage of a bond at a demanding potential. This talk will describe our effort to delineate the basic design principles. In this presentation, super-reducing photocatalytic behavior for a simple pincer ligand will be described, which is ubiquitous in coordination chemistry literature. Furthermore, a series of organic molecules such as benzophenothiazine, phenothiazine, substituted fluorene, HATCN have been shown to perform chemical transformations with demanding redox. Promising photocatalytic motifs are chemically modified to convert them as either super-reducing photocatalyst or hydrogen atom transfer catalyst. Some of these motifs has been incorporated in the backbone of the covalent organic framework (COF) and has been utilized as heterogeneous catalyst. The design principle, their photophysical studies, their utilization for important chemical transformations and mechanistic features will be described and discussed.
