Talk Title : "Photoisomerization of BN-Benzenes for Energy Storage."
Abstract
While benzene shows a rich photochemistry yielding multiple products, irradiation of BN-benzenes (1,2-dihydro-1,2-azaborinines) produces the Dewar benzene isomers as the only primary photoisomerization products. The Dewar isomers are higher in energy than the BN-benzenes by roughly 50 kcal mol-1, the photoisomerization proceeds with high quantum yield, and the reverse reaction can be triggered by catalysts . The BN-benzene – Dewar-BN-benzene system thus comprises a promising molecular platform for energy storage application. Current research addresses unraveling structure-property relationships, designing high-energy density materials, and increasing storage life-times. I will address these issues in the presentation of BN-benzenes as molecular solar thermal energy systems.
