About Speaker
Vijayalakshmi Ravindranath is an Indian neuroscientist. She is currently a Professor in Centre for Neuroscience, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Her main area of interest is the study of brain related disorders including neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Dr. Ravindranath joined the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, (NIMHANS) Bangalore in 1986. She served as Director at NBRC from 1999 to April 2009. She established the National Brain Research Centre (NBRC). In a short span of 3 years, she established a state-of-art institute in a remote location and initiated a unified approach to understanding the human brain, integrating mathematical and computational science. She networked 45 institutions around the country with NBRC with a goal to share resources and promote neuroscience research. She serves as Member of Advisory Board at Jeevan Scientific Technology Limited. She was a Non-Executive Independent Director at Beardsell Limited since October 20, 2017 until November 29, 2018. Prof. Ravindranath is an elected fellow of several Indian academies: Indian Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Sciences, Indian National Science Academy National Academy of Medical Sciences Indian Academy of Neurosciences Third World Academy of Sciences For her outstanding contributions in the field of Neuroscience, she has been honored with various prestigious awards: • Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology for Medical Sciences in 1996 • Om Prakash Bhasin Award for Science & Technology in 2001 • J.C. Bose Fellowship in 2006 • KP Bhargava Medal of Indian National Science Academy • Padma Shri Award in 2010
